How the University of Bath transformed career services with CareerHub

Home to over 20,000 students, the University of Bath ranks in the top 10 universities in the UK by the Guardian’s University Guide and is listed as one of the top 150 universities in the world. With a standout reputation, the University of Bath has been a Symplicity CareerHub user since 2011 for all of its career development needs. Prior to adopting CareerHub, the University of Bath’s career centres were working in many siloed departments on top of using redundant technology such as spreadsheets and multiple shared files instead of a centralised system. “Bringing Symplicity CareerHub on board to help us connect the dots together has been a real big help for us,” said Martin Downes, Information Manager at the University of Bath. “We've always felt it's a good match for our goals for the service and the university employability strategy.”

Over the past decade, the University of Bath has expanded its use of CareerHub to include over 300 administrators. In particular, the University of Bath is using CareerHub’s robust reporting module to help map student engagement with their career centre. “We’re able to see what resources they’re looking at, what jobs they’re looking at, how many appointments they’re coming to and use that data to feed into our Power BI dashboards, which has been massively helpful for us when analysing how we can help our students and map their engagement,” said Downes.

Additionally, the University of Bath utilises the workflow feature “a lot” to compile resources and automate email processes. This has enabled the career centre team to all be on the same page, ensure nothing gets miscategorised and student needs are addressed in a timely manner, while providing them with career development resources. “So making sure that data is up to date so we can use it effectively when we are looking to round up students from different departments and faculties, has been absolutely vital to the way we work,” said Downes.

“Bringing Symplicity CareerHub on board to help us connect the dots together has been a big help for us...The support team have helped us identify solutions implementing new technology around workflows and automation, which we might not been able to use. And we've always felt it's a good match for our goals for the service and the university employability strategy.”
