3 Creative Ways to Remind Students About Your Career Center

With finals approaching and the excitement of the holidays starting to build, your career center might find that students’ engagement with career services is beginning to drop. There are ways, though, that you can slip back into students’ minds and ensure that they aren’t neglecting your career services offerings. Use these ideas now and bring them out again year-round to make sure students don’t forget the importance of visiting your career center.

Send Them off With Gift Bags

‘Tis the season of gifting, and students' professors are probably the last point of contact students will have with administration or faculty before leaving for vacation. One way to keep your career center top-of-mind is to have professors send students off after finals with fun career services-related treats as a parting gift.

Depending on your budget, this could be something as simple as a cute gift bag with some candy and a few handouts about upcoming career services events scheduled for the new year. Or, if you’ve got a bit more spending room, you could make full-out swag bags with gear like water bottles, chargers and other necessities that will serve as a daily reminder to students that your career center is there.

This will require collaboration with professors, of course, so consider sending out a mass email to get them on board, then set a time when the professors can come and pick up the gift bags to distribute on the day students leave after taking their finals.

Sneak Surprises Into Their Daily Routines

Gifts aren’t the only way you can slip into students’ consciousness during their daily routines. If you’re on a tighter budget, consider other creative reminders to help keep your career center’s offerings front and center. One example could be printing out handouts and career center staff’s business cards, then collaborating with the campus cafeteria staff and various stores on campus to have the staff there slip these into students’ purchases. Make sure you include your career center’s social media handles on the handouts so students can follow your career center if they aren’t already.

Ask for Shout-Outs at Popular Campus Events

Is your campus hosting any fun end-of-the-year holiday parties, concerts or other popular events? If so, definitely reach out to the organizers of these events to ask for a quick shout-out during the event about your career center and its offerings. You can even extend this past campus-wide events and reach out to event organizers at fraternities, sororities and other student groups that you know are hosting highly anticipated events before the end of the semester.

This time of year certainly introduces many competing priorities in students’ minds, which is why it’s more important than ever to remind them that your career center is there and ready to help them snag a job for the new year.
