The ranking from College Consensus incorporates college ranking publishers and real student reviews to provide “the most accurate and comprehensive ranking of a school’s reputation and quality available anywhere.” College Consensus’ Best Disability Friendly ranking focuses specifically on how higher education institutions support students with a physical disability, rating intuitions based on how they provide accommodations such as: longer testing time, audio and note taking services, technology advancements, how a university provides mental health support to students, support group availability, and the incorporation of universal learning into curricula and building infrastructure.
A special congratulations to University of Michigan’s Services for Students with Disabilities, which ranks number one on College Consensus’ list:
This University’s Services for Students with Disabilities has been offering accommodations and access to students with disabilities for the last 40 years. They boast of assistive technology testing, accessible housing, and proctor options for out-of-residence exams… They pride themselves on striving to support full inclusion of individuals with disabilities as part of the University of Michigan’s commitment to creating a diverse and multicultural community. These are among some of the many resources offered to students with physical disabilities. All services are available for no extra charge to the student. Their student services office and disability coordinators work to make the campus inclusive environments through specialized advocacy, support, and academic services.
